Today Syed Rizvi completes seven cancer- free years
Dear Friends
Just seven years ago June 10, 2010, I went through my cancer surgery followed by months of chemo; and since then I have been seeing my oncologist who told me the other day that I am cancer free.
I believe a positive spirit and vegan diet has a lot to do with winning of my fight against this evil disease.
This is just to give you an update; but you can see the full story on my fight against cancer on this blog.

Syed Rizvi completes his five years cancer-free
Dear friends and well wishers I just wanted to let you know that today I completed my five cancer-free years. On June 10, 2010, I went through a surgery to remove an advanced stage tumor from my colon. I am in good health since then. I am under no prescriptions, other than a monthly injection of Vitamin B12 that I am supposed to be taking for the rest of my life. I do believe that my vegan lifestyle does have a lot to do with my recovery and continued good health.
I am 81, and I go for long walks and do light exercise. Regularly participate in outdoor animal rights activities.
The following blog has more details about my fight with cancer.
Wishing you all well

Syed Rizvi completes his four cancer-free years today June 10, 2014
Dear friends and well wishers I wanted to let you know that today
I completed my four cancer-free years after my colon-cancer-surgery on June 10,
2010.
During the last four years, many of you had often asked me about
the state of my health, and my spirit, so I have updated the blog on my health
that was initially launched by my friend Caroline soon after I was diagnosed with
a stage-three tumor. The blog posted major milestones leading to my complete
recovery from the cancer at which time it seemed no longer necessary to
continue the blog at so frequent intervals. The last entry was made on February
12, 2012.
I have been routinely seeing my doctors who have been monitoring
my blood reports, checking out heart conditions, and also, as a precautionary
measure, looking for signs of prostate cancer that has never tested as positive. Very recently, I went through a set of major
tests that included colonoscopy and CT-Scan.
Everything came out clean.
Other than vitamin and iron supplements, I have not been
prescribed any medication, e.g., drugs for lowering of cholesterol or
controlling of pressure or sugar that is quite common for people at my age. I turned 80 last December. I do believe, and doctors agree, that this
prescription-free life-style of mine has a lot to do with my vegan diet that is
free from any animal product like meat, fish, milk or honey.
Throughout my last four years, I have been in good
health, and good spirit; and have been quite active in my profession as well as
many animal rights activities http://prime.peta.org/2013/12/one-person-make-difference\ ; and writing OpEd on animal cause http://www.newageislam.com/ijtihad,-rethinking-islam/hajj----some-afterthoughts/d/9483. And fully participating in out-door activities that
include the long March for the elephants.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oirgyzEJJ1g and a recent vigil on
National Animal Rights Day in the memory of animals killed by humans for whatever reasons. Related to the vigil,
here
is a collection of about 400 slides where you may find me on slides # 9, 10, 106, 111, 147, and 286. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=739151459479772&set=a.739151399479778.1073741836.388042877923967&type=1&theater
My encounter with cancer has not brought me down
in any fashion. In fact, it has given me
a zest for life and made me truly
experience life in its present moment.
Thank you all for your good wishes

Another Year of Great Health
Happy Belated New Year everyone. Long time no write as they sort-a-say.
Another happy start to the year for Syed. Since his bout with colon cancer, he remains in great health and continued remission. All last year, Linda accompanied him to all of his doctor’s appointments which I’m happy to report were frankly, “boring”. Not that the conversation wasn’t interesting but there was just nothing of concern to report since Syed is in continued great health since he has been taking such good care of himself.
I also wanted to let you all know that going forward, Syed will now be managing this blog. The initial intention was to keep everyone up-to-date on Syed’s road to recovery from colon cancer. We were going to shut down the blog but Syed decided that he would like to manage it going forward. The secondary purpose of the blog was to create a forum where people could possibly share their stories of recovery. Who knows, maybe Rizvi's Road will head in a completely different direction, hence the name of the blog.
Thank you all for your tremendous support of Syed. I think I can speak for both Linda and myself when I say that his circle of friends are ones to be admired. We were just stunned at how many people around the world reached out to be there for Syed through his treatment and recovery. While Syed is an amazing man, he is surrounded by truly amazing people. I think Syed has proved the saying to be true, “your friends are a reflection of you.”
Here’s to years filled with Health, Happiness, Laughter, and Love.
